Project in the NPSS newsletter

Odilian Adamczak, in cooperation with project partners, prepared an article focused on deer and project activities related to them. He mentioned the result of immobilisation and putting collars on a total of 32 individuals of red deer. He described the basic results of browsing monitoring, i.e. the effect of deer on forest regeneration, which we monitor using 38 monitoring and 28 control fenced areas. The effect of predators on deer numbers was also mentioned. The wolf returned to the Šluknov area in 2012 and since then its numbers have gradually increased to the current 6 packs. Monitoring wolves using telemetric collars and food analysis of their scat help us to reveal the effect of wolves on the red deer population. You can read the full article in the September issue of the newsletter of the Saxon Switzerland National Park Administration.
