Project period: 01.01.2024 - 31.12.2026
Total project budget: EUR 1,515,126.18
EU financial support: EUR 1,212,100.92
Objectives and content:
The project aims to significantly strengthen the missing cooperation between the Czech and Saxon Switzerland national parks in the management of the European red deer population. The project consortium will first evaluate the current state of ungulates in the territory of both National Parks, then the factors that influence the deer population will be studied; the impact of deer on forest regeneration will also be evaluated. The main result of the project will be, through the knowledge gained, the creation of a common deer management strategy in both national parks. The output will reflect the differences between the two states and take into account the role of other species of mammals.
For the purpose of creating the Strategy, the following will be established:
- population density, spatial distribution and structure of the mammal population (especially red deer);
- behavior patterns of red deer (spatial activity and its change over 15 years);
- the effect of wolves on the red deer population (predation of deer by wolves, spatial activity of wolves);
- the effect of hunting and tourism on the red deer population;
- the effect of deforestation (by fire, bark beetles, felling) on ??the behavior of red deer;
- the influence of deer game on forest regeneration.
